About LCA

Putting the love of Christ into action

One person, one family and one community at a time.

Our vision

Lasting transformation, not temporary relief

To create lasting transformation by sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ, empowering vulnerable individuals and families to become self-sufficient, and providing children, youth and adults with the education, skills and opportunities they need to thrive.

Our mission

We share Christ’s love by meeting needs

We share Christ’s love by meeting needs, supporting recovery, and offering hope to displaced families in Haiti. We support healthcare, education, food distribution, emergency relief, long-term stability, safe drinking water and other support services.

We believe the best way to serve a community is to listen to the people who live there. Before beginning a project, we work closely with local community leaders to understand the needs and challenges of the people we hope to serve. This helps us make sure that our resources are directed where they can make the greatest difference.

“Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.” 1 John 3:18 (NIV)
Our history

Born out of prayer, compassion, and a desire to serve

Love of Christ in Action (LCA) was born out of prayer, compassion, and a desire to serve the people of Haiti.

As we prayed and asked God how we could serve others, our hearts became increasingly burdened by the needs of children and families in Haiti. We believed that one of the most lasting ways to make a difference was through education grounded in the love and truth of Jesus Christ. This conviction continues to guide our commitment to serving vulnerable families, nurturing faith, and bringing hope to communities in need.

Along this journey, God brought together people and organizations who shared a heart for serving the people of Haiti. Institution Alexandre Campbell (IAC), a Christian school, and Église Chrétienne de Laferoney (ECLA), a local Christian church, are valued partners in this mission. We are united by a shared desire to demonstrate the love of Christ and make a lasting difference in the lives of children, families, and communities.

In September 2014, IAC (Institution Alexandre Campbell) opened its doors. What began as a small step of faith gradually grew as God opened doors and provided the people and resources needed to continue the work. The school began with kindergarten and one elementary class, adding a new grade each year.

Today, IAC remains committed to providing quality Christian education while nurturing the spiritual, intellectual, moral, and physical development of its students. Through a biblical perspective on learning and life, the school seeks to help students grow in knowledge, develop strong character, and understand the love and truth of Jesus Christ. ECLA also serves as a spiritual home for its community, sharing the Gospel, encouraging believers, and bringing people together in faith and service.

Our story is ultimately a story of faith, obedience and God’s faithfulness. We continue to believe that when we place what we have in God’s hands, He can use it to bring hope, transformation and lasting change. This is why we serve. This is why we teach. This is why we continue to put the love of Christ into action.

How we work

Helping people, without creating dependency

We listen first

We partner with local community leaders to understand what a community actually needs before we start a project, rather than arriving with a plan already written.

We buy and hire locally

Whenever possible we purchase materials locally, work with local people, create jobs, and invest in the skills and resources already in the community.

We aim at self-sufficiency

Our goal is to help individuals and families move toward greater stability, dignity and self-sufficiency, not toward a longer relationship with us.

Board Co-Chair & Treasurer

Walter was born in Saint-Michel-de-l’Attalaye, Haiti, and grew up in Port-au-Prince. He went on to obtain a diploma in evangelism and church planting from the International School of Evangelism in Nigeria, followed by a master’s degree in Christian counseling from the International Faith Theological Seminary in Haiti.

Debbie Fischer

Board Chair

Debbie has spent more than 45 years working with young people. For 30 of those years she directed Youth2Youth at Family Services, where she founded the program’s youth component, and before that she spent 13 years with the Badger Council of Girl Scouts as Product Sales and Public Relations Director.

She has long been active in her community, serving as Vice President of Stateline Crime Stoppers, on the leadership team of the Beloit Area Task Force on Homelessness, and as Mission Team Leader at Central Christian Church.

In Haiti, Debbie co-founded Bless the Boys Haiti, an orphanage sponsorship program she has co-chaired for more than 15 years. In that time more than 200 children have been matched with sponsors in the United States, and her team has built buildings at the orphanage and at Pastor Walter’s school, Institution Alexandre Campbell, along with two large playgrounds at the orphanage and the school.

Debbie believes children can and should be empowered to make a difference in the world, and that conviction is what draws her to this work.
